The 49ers initially signed Griffith (6-4, 250) originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 28, 2020. He was waived on August 21 and then signed with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on October 7, 2020, where he spent six days.
San Francisco re-signed Griffith on October 21, 2020, and then signed him to a reserve/future contract on January 4. This preseason was his first NFL action due to the preseason being canceled last year because of COVID.
"It feels amazing, honestly," Griffith told reporters on August 14. "It's my first time in the NFL, and it was, it was great, man. It was everything I wanted and wished for and thought of growing as a kid."
Griffith played college football at Indiana State, where he played in 44 games with 34 starts in five years (2015-19) and recorded 382 tackles, 50.0 tackles for loss, 14.0 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions.
