Chiefs signing ex-49ers RB Jerick McKinnon, per report

Apr 30, 2021 at 1:02 PM--

It looks like Jerick McKinnon has found a new NFL home. The former San Francisco 49ers running back is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, per Peter Schrager of NFL Network (h/t to Patrick Tulini).

The Minnesota Vikings made McKinnon a third-round selection out of Georgia Southern in 2014. He carried the football 81 times for 319 yards with five rushing touchdowns while adding 33 receptions for 253 yards with a receiving touchdown through 16 games with the 49ers in 2020.

McKinnon, 28, has accumulated 2,237 rushing yards on 555 attempts with 12 rushing touchdowns through his five NFL seasons. He did not play from 2018-19 after suffering a torn ACL.

NFL.com lists re-signing Richard Sherman as an offseason move 49ers should make

By Kirk Larrabee
Jun 11, 2021

The 49ers are mostly set when it comes to how their 90-man roster will look when training camp gets underway in July, but there's at least one unsigned player who looms large as a possible addition the team could make before the players return to Santa Clara. That player of course is cornerback Richard Sherman, who has yet to find a team after playing with the 49ers the past three seasons. Whether the 49ers and Sherman decide to reunite for another go-round remains to be seen. But NFL.com columnist Jeffri Chadia thinks continuing the relationship would make sense for both sides as he listed the 49ers re-signing Sherman as one of five big moves NFL teams should make in the coming months. "As of right now, the best fit for Sherman remains the 49ers,"

Bleacher Report lists Deebo Samuel as the 49ers' biggest X-factor for 2021

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report picked one player from each NFL roster who could be each team's biggest X-factor in 2021 (h/t to Kirk Larrabee). These are players who aren't quarterbacks or prototypical stars. That would be too easy. However, these 32 players' performances during the upcoming season could mean the difference between reaching the Super Bowl or missing the playoffs entirely for their respective teams. Who is Gagnon's pick for the San Francisco 49ers? The guidelines listed above throw out names like Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa. It does leave third-year wideout Deebo Samuel, though, and he is the pick for Kyle Shanahan's

'Nick Bosa is a BEAST': Kurt Warner breaks down the 49ers defense and run game

Kurt Warner, as part of QBConfidential, takes a look at two aspects of the San Francisco 49ers — the team's defense and its run game. He shared his breakdowns via YouTube (h/t to Patrick Tulini). 49ers defense "Defensively, the Niners are actually pretty simple...kind of like offensively, they like to do the same thing over and over again," writes Warner in the description for the video. "Because they are really good up front, defensively that's where they thrive. They typically don't give up the big plays, relying on Nick Bosa and company to get after the quarterback. Some of their struggles last year came when Bosa suffered the injury. He's such a difference maker, and that's really what makes

49ers' Kyle Shanahan on Julio Jones to Titans trade: "My second-favorite choice is him being in the AFC"

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is at the Sonoma Raceway today. He is the Grand Marshal of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race and caught up with reporters following the news of the Atlanta Falcons trading wide receiver Julio Jones to the Tennessee Titans. The 49ers were likely interested, and there was a lot of speculation surrounding the potential of a Jones-Shanahan reunion. The coach worked with Jones for two seasons (2015-16) when he was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta. Shanahan was asked about the trade. "I'm very glad he's in the AFC," he responded. One reporter said it would have been nice to have
