According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the San Francisco 49ers are among several NFL teams that have spoken with Liberty linebacker Anthony Butler. The others include the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Quality run stopper at the LB position," wrote Melo.

As Melo stated, Butler recorded 67 tackles to go along with his four tackles for a loss, one sack, two interceptions, and four passes defensed through 10 games as a senior in 2020, per Sports Reference. It was his only season with Liberty after the defender transferred from Charlotte.
Butler (6-1, 230) recorded a career-high 72 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and two interceptions as a sophomore with Charlotte in 2017.
With the draft set to begin in just over two weeks, the 49ers continue to do their homework on the prospects. NFL teams are allowed to conduct up to five video calls per prospect leading to the draft, and each call can last up to one hour.
