Kendrick Bourne: ‘Jimmy Garoppolo gonna stay a Niner ... and he gonna ball’

Feb 19, 2021 at 9:50 AM--

A fan recently told Kendrick Bourne via the receiver's Twitch stream to tell San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Bourne didn't seem to appreciate the comment and defended his quarterback.

"Jimmy Garoppolo gonna stay a Niner, bro," Bourne responded to the fan. "Jimmy Garoppolo is staying a Niner, bro, and he gonna start, and he gonna ball."

@OurSF49ers captured Bourne's comments.

Many have speculated that the 49ers might consider upgrading from Garoppolo this offseason. That has led to many rumors linking San Francisco to any quarterback who has become or might become available. The team reportedly inquired about Matthew Stafford and Carson Wentz but was not considered to be serious about either.

The 49ers are coming off a six-win season, which followed a Super Bowl appearance. Injuries played a big part in 2020's downfall. With a decreasing salary cap limit and some veteran talent's potential exodus, some wonder what the future might hold for San Francisco.

Bourne, 25, is among those 49ers veterans who could find a new NFL home this offseason. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next month but hopes to stay with the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

"I love the Niners, though, and they're still in the conversation with me," Bourne recently told Bay Area News Group. "They've told me they want me back, so that's definitely still an option.

"They've got me as a good priority, I feel. They show a lot interest and are trying to get something done. I'm not their top priority, but they appreciate everything I've done the last few years. It's a good relationship, and the building is awesome."

Added Bourne: "I'm trying to get back to the Super Bowl, and that's going to be a big part of my decision."

Marcellus Wiley: Kyle Shanahan making Jimmy Garoppolo a scapegoat as 49ers prepare to draft replacement

By David Bonilla
Apr 9, 2021

Everyone is eagerly trying to figure out which quarterback will be selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 3 overall pick. Will it be Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or the less-popular choice of Mac Jones? Whatever the decision, it means the end of Jimmy Garoppolo's time with the Niners is inching closer. The veteran quarterback is expected to remain with the team this season, as head coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello get the incoming rookie up to speed. Marcellus Wiley, a former NFL defensive end, made it known this week that he feels that replacing Garoppolo is a mistake. He believes the quarterback is being made a scapegoat for San Francisco's disappointing six-win campaign in 2020. The Speak for Yourself host went on a rant,

Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones. One of those quarterbacks is likely to be part of the San Francisco 49ers roster following the draft. Jimmy Garoppolo has been part of the roster since a mid-season trade in 2017 sent him from Foxborough to Santa Clara, where he is expected to remain for at least the upcoming season. Some wonder if plans could change, though. There were reports that the 49ers seek a first-round pick for Garoppolo. Most who have been following the team know that basically means San Francisco has no intention — for now — of trading its veteran quarterback and would have to be blown away by an offer to consider deviating from its plan. That plan is to have Garoppolo serve as a bridge quarterback, allowing the

Yates: Holding onto Jimmy Garoppolo this season makes sense for 49ers

No matter who the San Francisco 49ers select at No. 3 overall later this month, the speculation surrounding the future of Jimmy Garoppolo will heat up. Right now, the plan is to hold onto the veteran quarterback, allowing the rookie to sit and learn in his first year. Still, there will be those who believe the 49ers should trade Garoppolo and that his trade value will plummet as soon as his eventual replacement is drafted. Field Yates joined ESPN's Get Up! and explained why it might be in the Niners' best interest to hold onto Garoppolo for the upcoming season, which head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have stated as the plan. "We still plan on him leading us and getting as far as we can with him,"

49ers draft: Justin Fields has best chance to be better than Jimmy Garoppolo, says ESPN

By David Bonilla
Apr 21, 2021

In eight days, the San Francisco 49ers will draft a future replacement for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has played well for the team but has durability concerns. He has missed 23 games over the past three seasons, including missing 10 games in 2020. Justin Fields of Ohio State, Mac Jones of Alabama, and Trey Lance of North Dakota State are the best options for the Niners, who own the No. 3 overall pick following the massive trade last month. While Fields is the betting favorite to be the selection, and most "experts" have the team adding Jones, no one can say with any certainty who the pick might be. Analysts Seth Walder and Paul Sabin of ESPN went through the exercise of
