ESPN names two 49ers as 'sneaky-good' free agents, predicts landing spots for Deshaun Watson

ESPN's NFL experts answered some offseason-related questions, including identifying some "sneaky-good" free agents and predicting a destination for disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Two San Francisco 49ers impending free agents were labeled as "sneaky-good" players that NFL teams should covet once the bidding wars kick off next month. That is assuming neither is re-signed before then. Matt Bowen named defensive end Kerry Hyder, who racked up a career-high sack total last season, his first with San Francisco. "Hyder has traits as an edge rusher off

Peter King weighs in on what it might cost for 49ers to trade for Deshaun Watson

Would the 49ers be willing to trade one of their top two young defensive stars, a slew of draft picks, and more if it meant getting Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in return? It's possible that's the type of package they might have to ship in Houston's direction if they ever have the chance. And it's one that NBC Sports NFL writer Peter King proposes in his latest Football Morning In America column, in which he comes up with his own deals for teams that could be interested in bringing the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback into the fold. Sam Monson, the lead analyst for Pro Football Focus, feels the trade partner that makes the most sense for Deshaun Watson is the Miami Dolphins. That is, assuming the quarterback can force the Houston Texans to trade him. The Dolphins have a lot of draft capital to surrender, including two first-rounders this year, and could be a quarterback away from contending. Another team that could be considered built to win now is the San Francisco 49ers. However, they do not have as appealing a portfolio of draft picks as Miami. That would mean that to compete in a bidding war for a player like Watson — and there is no evidence that they would consider it — San Francisco would need to throw in some young proven talent into an offer that would also include draft

Russini: Texans continue to avoid inquiries about Deshaun Watson

By David Bonilla
Feb 25, 2021

The Houston Texans have insisted they have no desire to trade quarterback Deshaun Watson, and that's the story they're sticking to. Watson, on the other hand, has grown frustrated with the organization and wants out of Houston. Until last week (see below), the young star quarterback had cut off all contact with the team as the two sides remain in deadlock. The Texans' refusal to give in to Watson's demands hasn't stopped teams from reaching out. Those inquiries continue to be ignored, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini (h/t to Patrick Tulini). Houston isn't
