49ers CB Jason Verrett ‘absolutely’ feels like he’s back at a Pro Bowl level

Oct 22, 2020 at 10:34 AM--

Jason Verrett is finally healthy and putting in some dominating performances on the football field again. The injury-plagued cornerback has endured mostly challenging years since entering the NFL in 2014. It sounds like his hard work is finally paying off.

Verrett has landed on injured reserve during all but one of his previous six NFL seasons. That one season in 2015 ended up landing the cornerback a Pro Bowl selection for his play that year.

Verrett joined 95.7 The Game on Wednesday and was asked if he feels like he is finally back at that Pro Bowl level now that he is at his healthiest since that 2015 season.

"Yeah, absolutely," Verrett responded on the Damon, Ratto & Kolsky show. "I just think, as the weeks go on, I think my game will elevate. This is a tough league and been out a while, but every week, I just look to try to take my game to another level, get out there facing some of the best receivers in the game week after week, and just try to gradually get myself back to the form that I once was."

Pro Football Focus named Verrett the Defensive Player of the Week following his impressive performance on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. His overall Week 6 grade of 94.0 was his highest mark since Week 9 of the 2015 season. Opposing quarterbacks own a passer rating of 7.0 while targeting him this season.

Cornerback Jason Verrett has struggled to get onto and stay on the football field during his NFL career. He was labeled as injury-prone after landing on injured reserve during five of his first six pro seasons. It was a bit of a surprise when the San Francisco 49ers re-signed Verrett to a one-year deal in April. It turned out to be a good move. Richard Sherman landed on injured reserve after Week 1, and Verrett has since filled in for the veteran, regaining the Pro Bowl form he displayed in 2015. "You're just so excited and so happy to see that because of everything he's been through," Sherman said last month. "I mean, some of the most devastating injuries after

Only one 49ers player leading fan portion of Pro Bowl voting

By David Bonilla

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the fan portion of Pro Bowl voting. He's followed by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. That probably won't come as a surprise to many. What might be surprising is that just one San Francisco 49ers player is among those leading by position. That would be fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who is obviously deserving. But what about the others? Yes, the 49ers are 4-6 and may not be able to stack enough wins down the stretch to sneak into the playoffs, but some names are deserving. The first name that comes to mind is probably star linebacker Fred Warner, who leads the team in tackles. Green Bay Packers quarterback

Jerry Rice says 49ers' Deebo Samuel plays like a 'pissed-off receiver'

By David Bonilla
Nov 30, 2020

Jerry Rice knows a thing or two about wide receiver play. And the Hall of Famer loves what he sees from second-year San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel. What did Samuel do in his first game back since October 25? He hauled in 11 of his 13 targets for 133 yards, helping the 49ers to a dramatic 23-20 upset victory over the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. "I'm just going to say it. He was a pissed-off receiver," Rice said Monday morning on 95.7 The Game's Morning Roast. "Aaron Donald, what he said about Deebo, that, 'Who is Deebo Samuel?' I think he knows who Deebo Samuel is right now." Rice is referring to the Rams' star defensive tackle's comments after the two teams' first meeting when he seemed not to know who Samuel is after being
