Practice squad tight end suspended

One of the tight ends on the 49ers practice squad — Chase Harrell — has been suspended for six games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle was the first to report the news with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area later offering further details.

San Francisco signed Harrell as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in April. He was signed to the practice squad on September 6.

Ben Garland wins NFL Award

49ers offensive lineman Ben Garland earned Week 3's "NFL Way to Play Award" for his hit on New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez on Sunday.

Each week's winner receives a $2,500 equipment grant through USA Football for the youth or high school football program of the player's choice.

That means the second-year wideout did not practice at all this week, making his availability for Sunday's game against the Saints very unlikely. General manager John Lynch had hoped Samuel might be able to get onto the practice field today but noted that his availability for this weekend remained a long shot. "I think the final challenge or opportunity for Deebo to show that he can go is out here on Friday,"
