49ers RB Tevin Coleman expected to miss “multiple weeks,” per Schefter

Sep 21, 2020 at 1:30 PM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday afternoon that running back Tevin Coleman suffered a knee sprain but didn't go into too much detail surrounding his status.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Coleman is expected to miss "multiple weeks."

Shanahan already confirmed that running back Raheem Mostert (MCL sprain) would likely be ruled out for this weekend's game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. That means the team could enter Week 3 without both of its top two running backs on the depth chart.

Coleman suffered the injury during the second half of Sunday's game against the New York Jets. He was ineffective replacing an injured Mostert and finished the game with 12 rushing yards on 14 carries while adding two catches for 28 yards.

The 49ers will likely roll with Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. as their running backs and could promote JaMycal Hasty from the practice squad.

Coleman is in his second season with San Francisco after signing a two-year deal with the team last year. He has 30 rushing yards and 34 receiving yards through his two games this season.

49ers' Ronald Blair had a setback, PUP players expected to miss more time, says Kyle Shanahan

By David Bonilla
Oct 16, 2020

Don't expect the San Francisco 49ers to get defensive linemen Ronald Blair and Jullian Taylor, or center Weston Richburg, anytime soon. Kyle Shanahan revealed on Friday that Blair suffered a setback with his recovery from the ACL injury he sustained last season. That will push back his return. "Ronald Blair did have a setback," Shanahan said. "Had to redo some things to his knee, some stuff that they messed up in it. He is doing a lot better from that but that's why he's going to be a couple of weeks longer than expected." All three, in fact, aren't expected to return until sometime between Weeks 10 and 12 now. While they will each be eligible to return from physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) sooner, Shanahan says they won't be healthy enough to do so until

Kyle Shanahan says Jimmy Garoppolo has looked good in practice, is expected to help 49ers vs. Rams

By David Bonilla
Oct 15, 2020

Head coach Kyle Shanahan sounds confident that Jimmy Garoppolo's next outing will be better than his last. Hindered by his ankle injury, the quarterback was pulled after two quarters this past Sunday in the Niners' embarrassing 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. "Jimmy threw it good in warmups. He threw it good on the Thursday and Friday of practice (last week)," Shanahan said on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "But when you do have a high-ankle sprain, that [can] come back in a game. And he got sacked a few times before that, and he started to throw it a little bit differently. You could tell it was affecting him a little bit. That's why I do think it affected a number of his throws after that. "And the way the game was going, and when I could

49ers' Raheem Mostert, Ben Garland likely headed to IR; Weston Richburg not expected back until Week 12

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that running back Raheem Mostert suffered a high-ankle sprain on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. "We'll see how it progresses," Shanahan said. "Most likely IR (for Mostert)." Mostert will have company. Center Ben Garland left Sunday's game with a calf strain and will be "out for a while," according to Shanahan. He will "most likely" land on injured reserve later this week too. Shanahan said Hroniss Grasu would replace Garland until center Weston Richburg can return (see below). Shanahan also provided the following injury updates. Safety Jaquiski Tartt suffered a groin strain. The 49ers will learn more this week about the severity of the
