San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday afternoon that running back Tevin Coleman suffered a knee sprain but didn't go into too much detail surrounding his status.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Coleman is expected to miss "multiple weeks."
Shanahan already confirmed that running back Raheem Mostert (MCL sprain) would likely be ruled out for this weekend's game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. That means the team could enter Week 3 without both of its top two running backs on the depth chart.
49ers' RB Tevin Coleman is expected to miss "multiple weeks" with the knee injury he suffered Sunday, per source. So 49ers are expected to be without Coleman and Raheem Mostert on Sunday at the Giants.
Coleman suffered the injury during the second half of Sunday's game against the New York Jets. He was ineffective replacing an injured Mostert and finished the game with 12 rushing yards on 14 carries while adding two catches for 28 yards.
The 49ers will likely roll with Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. as their running backs and could promote JaMycal Hasty from the practice squad.
Coleman is in his second season with San Francisco after signing a two-year deal with the team last year. He has 30 rushing yards and 34 receiving yards through his two games this season.
