‘I feel fantastic’: George Kittle downplays injury, but 49ers will learn more on Monday

Sep 13, 2020 at 5:42 PM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle headed into the locker room a little earlier than his teammates after suffering what looked to be a knee or leg injury. He was, however, able to return to the game in the second half, but was largely ineffective in the team's 24-20 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium on Sunday.

The tight end was held without a catch after the injury.

"George, he's a warrior," quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said. "He fights through a lot, a lot of injuries, a lot of little nicks and bumps. But it didn't affect him at all. They were cheating a lot of coverage to him and putting some extra people on him, so it made it a little difficult at times, but I thought he played a hell of a game."

Kittle was asked after the game how his leg feels.

"I feel fantastic. Fantastic," Kittle responded. "Not an issue at all."

Of course, the 49ers star said something similar last season after suffering an injury, coincidentally, against the Cardinals during a Week 9 contest. Like this game, Kittle continued playing in that 2019 road matchup but missed the next two games.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the team would learn more about the extent of the injury on Monday.

"I'm not exactly sure (about the extent of the injury)," Shanahan said. "I know he went out with a lower leg injury. They don't get into specifics with me. At halftime, he told me he was good to go, so he returned.

"I'm sure we'll find out a little bit more tomorrow morning when he comes in."

Kittle ended the day with four receptions for 44 yards but was not targeted after returning from the injury.

George Kittle weighs in on 49ers' QB situation, says getting Jimmy Garoppolo back will be a 'huge boost'

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined KNBR on Tuesday morning, the morning after attending the wedding of his close friend and teammate, wide receiver Trent Taylor. The NFL star was actually in his car, returning to the Santa Clara area during the interview, resulting in some audio drops and a missed exit on the freeway. The topic of the 49ers quarterback situation came up. Kittle had both Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard throwing him the football on Sunday night. By the way, Kittle had a phenomenal night, hauling in 15 passes on 15 targets for 183 yards and a score. It wasn't as good a night for Mullens, who has been stepping in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Mullens earned the lowest Pro Football Focus grade for a starting quarterback this season

George Kittle ready to make his case for 'YAC Bros' invite during 49ers-Dolphins

By David Bonilla

Deebo Samuel welcomed rookie Brandon Aiyuk into the team's "YAC Bros" club. The San Francisco 49ers receivers take pride in their ability to rack up yards after the catch. It's a skill that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch seek in their offensive weapons. Maybe the "YAC Bros" is a bit more exclusive of a club than you might think. Apparently, All-Pro tight end George Kittle hasn't received his invite yet despite leading the team this season in total yards after the catch. Two seasons ago, he led the league in that category. "Am I a part of the YAC Bros? I didn't get a formal invitation or a t-shirt of anything," Kittle jokingly told reporters
