San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle D.J. Jones' shoulder is fine, and that is undoubtedly good news for the defense. The defender, however, is in the concussion protocol, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed after Saturday's practice.
"He'll be back sooner than later," Shanahan said.
Jones left practice on Thursday with a shoulder injury after the defender absorbed a goal-line hit. He was replaced by rookie Javon Kinlaw for the remainder of the session.
"We looked at his shoulder," Shanahan said. "It ended up being totally fine or he would have came to practice the next day. But he ended up having a concussion that we found out when we brought him in. We're not exactly sure when it happened, but it was good that we found that out after looking at his shoulder."
Shanahan also provided an update on tight end Ross Dwelley, whose foot was bothering him. That forced the tight end to miss Saturday's practice.
Defensive end Nick Bosa had the day off. It was not injury-related, though. Shanahan called it a "maintenance day."
