Matt Breida spent his first three NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017. After watching from the sidelines in February, as the Niners' Super Bowl hopes evaporated, the running back signed a one-year tender to return and take care of "unfinished business."

That ended on Saturday. Breida's NFL career will continue, but it will be in Miami.

A day after the running back was traded to the Dolphins on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft, he bid farewell to his former team and its fans via an Instagram post.

" ‪It's been an honor being a 49er & I will forever be grateful to management, my coaches, teammates & most especially to the Niner Faithful," wrote Breida. "The bay will always hold a special place in my heart. Was blessed to be able to call this place home. Too my brothers I will love you guys forever. We went through a lot together to build something great and special. We are family forever!

"I'm excited about my next opportunity in Miami. I promise to give everything I have to help our team succeed. I can't wait to get started, Miami!‬"

Breida carried the football 123 times for 623 yards with a rushing touchdown while adding 19 receptions for 120 yards with a receiving touchdown through 13 regular-season games and five starts in 2019. While he had nine carries for 19 yards during the 49ers' first two playoff games in January, he didn't touch the football during the team's Super Bowl LIV loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
