The San Francisco 49ers had planned to host James Madison University's defensive end Ron'dell Carter for a visit or workout, according to Justin Melo of USA Today's Draft Wire. Of course, that was before the NFL canceled pre-draft visits amid growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
We're not talking enough about #JMU EDGE rusher Ron'dell Carter. 12 sacks & 27 TFLs in 2019.
Carter didn't receive an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine in February. He believes that was an oversight and feels he is better than some of those in attendance.
"I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me a little bit," Carter said via Rivals.com, "just from the fact that I know I deserve to be there."
Carter had hoped to show off his abilities and raise his stock at JMU's pro day, but it, along with many others across the country, was canceled. It is possible that the 49ers have virtually interviewed Carter since the planned visit, but that hasn't been confirmed.
The defender transferred from Rutgers to JMU and racked up 23.5 sacks, 152 tackles, and 48 for a loss in three seasons with the Dukes. That includes 66 tackles, 27 for loss, 12 sacks, a forced fumble, and 13 quarterback hurries as a senior in 2019.
Carter was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and earned FCS first-team All-American honors last year.
