49ers-Seahawks Injury Report: George Kittle, Robbie Gould don’t practice; Ahkello Witherspoon limited

Nov 8, 2019 at 3:05 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 10 contest against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

There is some concern surrounding the availability of TE George Kittle for Monday's matchup. Neither he nor K Robbie Gould was on the field for Friday's practice.

Kittle is recovering from knee and ankle injuries suffered last week against the Arizona Cardinals while Gould is dealing with a quad strain sustained during Tuesday's practice. Neither injury is expected to be a long-term issue.

"He injured both his knee and ankle," general manager John Lynch said of Kittle on Friday morning. "I think the prognosis is good in terms of nothing long-term, and we all know, with George, he's as tough as they come. He wears these trainers out. He's here from morning 'til night. He's doing his best because every game is a huge game for him."

As for Gould, head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed his status on Thursday.

"I think he's got a chance to play Monday," Shanahan said. "If not, we expect him back the following week."

CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot, quadricep) and TE Levine Toilolo (groin) were limited on Friday after missing practice on Thursday.

"He's working on some stuff with the performance staff, and that's going to go all the way up to game day," defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said of Witherspoon on Friday.

LB Kwon Alexander (pectoral), who was placed on injured reserve this week and had surgery on Tuesday, was on hand to observe practice.

Below are Friday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Seahawks, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle can be a handful for opposing defenses. The first-team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl selection has recorded back-to-back seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards and highlights of him carrying New Orleans Saints defenders downfield may just be a preview of things to come. Kittle will likely sign a long-term deal sometime soon, meaning NFC West defenses will have to contend with him for the foreseeable future. The Seattle Seahawks gave up a haul for former New York Jets safety Jamal Adams. Some would criticize that they gave up too much. But in a division with Kittle lining up across from you twice a year, maybe Seattle felt it had to do something to close the gap on the defending NFC champions. Did it close

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider recently admitted that San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was among the reasons why the division rivals gave up a haul to acquire safety Jamal Adams. "But you have to have so much speed on the back, especially when we're playing against Kyler Murray and George Kittle and Robert Woods and all these guys that seem like they are just running all over the place," Schneider told Peter King of NBC Sports. "You've got to have as much speed on the field. So adding a guy like Jamal who has that versatility to play down in the box and play in the hole and play man coverage is really important to us." The

That was short-lived. Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated — not too long ago today — reported that the San Francisco 49ers were on the cusp of a six-year, $94.8 million contract extension for All-Pro tight end George Kittle. Don't celebrate just yet. Kittle himself replied via Twitter, asking, "Y'all believe everything you read on the internet, huh?" Y'all believe everything you read on the internet huh 😑
