49ers-Broncos Injury Report: Marquise Goodwin and Pierre Garçon practice while Matt Breida is ruled out

Dec 5, 2018 at 2:20 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 14 contest against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

In case you missed the earlier news, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin returned to the team on Monday after a lengthy excused absence to deal with a personal matter. He practiced on Wednesday, and head coach Kyle Shanahan expects his starting wideout to play against Denver.

"I'm just happy that he's doing better, good enough to be back in the building," Shanahan told reporters before Wednesday's practice. "I just got to see him a little bit in meetings today, so we'll see him out at practice today, see where he's at, how he looks, and we'll decide as the week goes."

Wednesday injury notes:

  • Shanahan has ruled out both running back Matt Breida and safety Jaquiski Tartt against the Broncos.
  • Running back Jeff Wilson, who received significant playing time against Seattle, is dealing with a foot injury but did practice.
  • Wide receiver Pierre Garçon, who has missed each of the 49ers' past three games and four of the past five, participated in Wednesday's practice but remained limited. Garçon was limited during each practice last week and eventually ruled out against Seattle.
  • Linebacker Dekoda Watson did not practice. Shanahan said on Monday that he would be placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn calf against Seattle.
  • Guard Joshua Garnett and safety D.J. Reed returned to practice.

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Broncos, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

49ers troll Saints while reminding fans to wear masks

Despite spending some time as division foes before the NFL realigned the NFC West, the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints aren't exactly rivals. A few more games like the Week 14 nail-biter last season could change that. Whoever is running the 49ers' social media account might want to ignite something, judging by an impressively clever tweet on Thursday. The post was meant to remind fans to wear masks during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which threatens the 2020 NFL season and sports in general. And that individual did so while taking a shot at the Saints. Be a saint. Grab a face mask.

NFL cancels Weeks 1 and 4 of preseason, eliminating Broncos, Chargers from 49ers' schedule

By David Bonilla
Jul 1, 2020

The NFL is canceling Weeks 1 and 4 of the preseason, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The league is reportedly expected to announce the decision on Thursday. "The move was driven by two primary factors," writes Florio. "First, teams who will be playing preseason games on the road won't want to move that many people. Second, given that no teams had on-field practice sessions in the offseason, coaches would rather have the extra time to work with their teams, and that will happen if they don't have to worry about two extra preseason games." For the 49ers, this will mean the elimination of the team's August 15 road game against the Denver
