The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly made an "exploratory call" to the Pittsburgh Steelers regarding running back Le'Veon Bell, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
In an article discussing the Philadelphia Eagles' interest in Bell, La Canfora noted the following:
"The Jets and 49ers have also made exploratory calls, though nothing has advanced beyond a preliminary stage and San Francisco's interest is likely mitigated by the season-ending injury to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo."
Bell continues his hold out as he hopes for a new long-term contract from the Steelers. La Canfora reports that Pittsburgh is in no rush to trade the running back and still has roughly a month until the trade deadline to explore options.
Also of note is that the Steelers are hopeful of receiving an offer better than a third-round pick. After all, they would receive a late 2020 third-round pick as compensation for him leaving as a free-agent after the season.
Meanwhile, 49ers running back Matt Breida is tied with Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for the league's top-ranked rusher. Each have 274 rushing yards through three games.
