Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was the biggest reason everyone was excited about the San Francisco 49ers this season. Even after losing new running back Jerick McKinnon for the season, hopes were still high for the rebuilding franchise, and it was mostly because of the much-hyped quarterback who finished last season on a hot streak.
Garoppolo will not take another snap for the 49ers until 2019. His season ended in Kansas City when he suffered a torn ACL late in the game against the Chiefs. Garoppolo showed last year that he could elevate the play of everyone around him. The loss of the team's leader has sent the 49ers plummeting in national power rankings this week. It is a sign that the media is not expecting much from the Jimmy G-less team for the remainder of the season.
Below is a small sample of some of the more prominent power rankings around the web and how far the 49ers have fallen in each.
