San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Dante Pettis has flashed some skills on the gridiron. But with the Niners visiting the Houston Texans for Week 2 of the preseason, Pettis had the chance to take some batting practice in at the Astros' Minute Maid Park.

Well, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis isn't just known for his exceptional speed and route-running abilities. Apparently he can hit the long ball pretty well too.

The Niners, of course, are in Houston for their exhibition bout versus the Texans this Saturday, Aug. 18. But with a day off on Tuesday, Pettis had a chance to meet up with his father, Gary Pettis, who just happens to be the Houston Astros' third base coach. And the younger Pettis managed to squeeze in a little bit of batting practice at Minute Maid Park too (h/t Fox 26's Mark Berman):

Yeah, Pettis has some pop too, apparently. And he likely got that from his dad, who played his MLB days with the California Angels, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres between 1982 and 1992.

Gary Pettis had just 21 home runs over his career, though, so hopefully the Astros -- or any other MLB team, for that matter -- won't be looking at Dante as a possible power option in the middle of their lineup.

San Francisco and Houston square off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 12 from NRG Stadium.

49ers plan to sign safety Erik Harris to practice squad

By David Bonilla
Nov 27

The San Francisco 49ers are looking to bolster their safety depth following injuries to Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum. Hufanga's season came to an end in Week 11 after the starter suffered a torn ACL, leading to rookie Ji'Ayir Brown taking his place in the lineup. Odum sustained a torn biceps in last week's victory over the Seattle Seahawks. While his return for the playoffs is possible, the injuries prompted the 49ers to explore additional options. According to NFL Network and confirmed by NBC Sports Bay Area, the team plans to sign veteran Erik Harris to the practice squad. Harris, undrafted in 2012, spent three

By David Bonilla
Nov 29

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 13 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead is dealing with a foot injury and did not practice. When asked if it was a similar issue to what he dealt with last season (plantar fasciitis), head coach Kyle Shanahan responded, "Not sure exactly. I know it's his foot, but not sure how similar it is." Also missing from practice were running back Jordan Mason, who is dealing with a hamstring issue, and wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who is recovering from a rib injury. Guard Spencer Burford returned to practice on Monday after being among the 49ers' inactive players against the Seattle Seahawks last week. He
