Chip Kelly on Eddie DeBartolo Jr: “Everything he did, he did with class”

Nov 16, 2016 at 10:38 AM--

This morning, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick opened up when asked about former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. during a conference call with 49ers media.

Later, during his press conference with much of the same media, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly was asked about DeBartolo.

"The big thing with Mr. D is just, I think, not only the winning attitude that he brought here to San Francisco but just how he did it," Kelly said. "And you listen to the former players that he touched, everything he did, he did with class and that's kind of what the hallmark of this organization is about. It's about winning with class. He's the guy that started that whole process here and brought the five Super Bowl titles and all the work that they've done, but doing it in the right manner. So that's kind of the first thing I think of. When I think of when I think of Mr. D, I think of class."

The 49ers are honoring DeBartolo on Sunday when the team hosts the New England Patriots at Levi's Stadium.

The San Francisco 49ers are facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship on Sunday, with the winner facing off against either the Cincinnati Bengals or the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. This is a stage familiar for the 49ers, as they've made the NFC Championship Game in three of the past four seasons now, losing to the Los Angeles Rams last season, while going to the Super Bowl in 2019 after a win over the Green Bay Packers. However, despite seeing consistent success, the 49ers haven't accomplished their No. 1 goal: winning a Super Bowl, which has left a chip on their shoulder as they strive to hit that goal this season. When asked about the topic, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk agreed with the sentiment about having a chip

No matter who you root for, you can imagine your team finding a way to win, a way to keep playing football, and filling your February with excitement and joy. Right now, there's nothing standing between your team and glory except the vagaries of chance and a well-fought effort this weekend, and hopefully the next. And for those of you who aren't rooting for a team that's made it this far, never fear. 7 of the 14 playoff entrants this year didn't make it into the dance last year. The

Both teams have strong offenses and defenses, which means that there will be many impactful players on both sides of the ball.
