Later, during his press conference with much of the same media, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly was asked about DeBartolo.
"The big thing with Mr. D is just, I think, not only the winning attitude that he brought here to San Francisco but just how he did it," Kelly said. "And you listen to the former players that he touched, everything he did, he did with class and that's kind of what the hallmark of this organization is about. It's about winning with class. He's the guy that started that whole process here and brought the five Super Bowl titles and all the work that they've done, but doing it in the right manner. So that's kind of the first thing I think of. When I think of when I think of Mr. D, I think of class."
The 49ers are honoring DeBartolo on Sunday when the team hosts the New England Patriots at Levi's Stadium.
