49ers suspend Brandon Jacobs, who wants to play for the Giants

Just days after Brandon Jacobs complained about "rotting away" with the San Francisco 49ers, the team has suspended the veteran running back for the remainder of the regular season. Signed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract in early April, Jacobs has been active for just three of the 49ers' 13 games this season, logging a mere 10 plays. On those plays, Jacobs has five rushing attempts for 7 yards. By not being a part of the team's 46-man gameday roster, Jacobs lost $125,000 in "per game active" roster bonuses through Sunday and will lose $37,500 more while serving his three-game suspension. Jacobs lashed out on social media late last week. "I am on this team rotting away so why would I wanna put any pics up of anything that say niners." Jacobs wrote on Instagram, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. "This is by far the worst year I ever had, I'll tell you like I told plenty others."

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture.
Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate.
"According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price."
