Every now and then, you have to sit back and admire the football genius of Kyle Shanahan. Watching how the San Francisco 49ers head coach attacked the weaknesses of the Green Bay Packers defense in the NFC Championship Game and not let up was a thing of beauty, even if you aren't a 49ers fan.
Then you have those moments when you think Shanahan might be able to predict the future, too. There was a moment like that with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 37-20 victory over the Packers. Shanahan was talking to an official before the ball is snapped, explaining the play he drew up and alerting him to keep an eye on defensive back Will Redmond — coincidentally, a former third-round pick by the Niners — going against
George Kittle.
"[Kittle's] going to go inside and break out," Shanahan told the official. "[Redmond] won't let him out, watch."
The play happened just as Shanahan predicted, and the official — plus another — threw his flag for defensive pass interference.
The 49ers ended up scoring a field goal on the drive. It would be the last bit of scoring in the game by either team and seal the win for San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for a franchise-record 4,280 yards last season, leading the team to the Super Bowl and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. He held onto the football 39 times on the ground, rushing for 144 yards and scoring twice. This marked a significant improvement over his rookie 2022 campaign when he had 22 carries for 13 yards and a score.
Purdy further displayed his athleticism during the 49ers' playoff game against the Detroit Lions last season, helping engineer a comeback victory while rushing for 48 yards on five carries.

49ers add pass rusher in new 7-round mock draft
Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team revealed his latest mock draft, which goes seven rounds deep and projects every selection for every NFL team. While most predict that the San Francisco 49ers will add an offensive lineman with their first selection, No. 31 overall, Mosher has the Bay Area team going in a different direction.
The writer and analyst has the Niners selecting former UCLA pass rusher Laiatu Latu in the first round.

49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick
The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
