Updating a previous story that
Colin Kaepernick resumed
throwing during warmups today, several players stated that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback did indeed take part in team drills during practice as well. It sounds as though Kaepernick, who has not fully participated in practice since August 10, has officially jumped back into the quarterback competition with
Blaine Gabbert.
Later, while in the locker room, Kaepernick himself confirmed his full participation and said that his arm was back to normal and that he was very happy to be back.
"He was throwing the ball well during open portion of practice,"
said Chris Biderman of
Niners Wire.
With Kaepernick unable to throw due to a muscle issue in his throwing arm, Gabbert has started the team's past two preseason games. The coaching staff has repeatedly stated that preseason will be huge for evaluating the two quarterbacks and deciding on a regular season starter. Until now, the competition has seen Gabbert go unchallenged. Kaepernick hopes to change that this week.
Head coach Chip Kelly has stated that the team would like to "ease" Kaepernick back into practice and prepare him for Friday's preseason matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Levi's Stadium. The quarterback feels that he is on track to do so. It would be his first game action – preseason or otherwise – since November 1, 2015.
"Were gonna take the full time we have to evaluate and make sure we make the right decision on our quarterback," said Kelly on
KNBR today. That may mean letting the competition last until the team's fourth and final preseason game – a game where starters typically rest.
Prior to Saturday's victory over the Denver Broncos, Kaepernick was seen on the field about two hours before kickoff. He reportedly threw over 50 passes, varying in distance, in about a 30-minute window.
On Sunday, head coach Chip Kelly was asked how the quarterback felt following that throwing session. "I think Kap is fine," Kelly answered. "I saw Kap. He's fine."

Former 49ers safety Donte Whitner, appearing this week on the "Up & Adam" show with Kay Adams, was vocal regarding the matchup and how certain circumstances seemed to favor the Chiefs.
"And when we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think that the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys," Whitner told Adams. "I think that when we look at that film and you see bear hugs on those defensive ends, right? And you really see it in blatant moments in the game."

Kellen Mond will try out during 49ers' local pro day
The San Francisco 49ers are set to host their local pro day this Wednesday afternoon, offering numerous draft prospects a prime opportunity to display their skills before the team's coaches, scouts, and front-office personnel.
However, it won't be just draft hopefuls on the field in Santa Clara. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, several others, including a former third-round draft pick, quarterback Kellen Mond, will try out for the team.
Maiocco's report also names tight ends Curtis Hodges, Hunter Kampmoyer, and Tommy Sweeney among those expected to attend.

49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick
The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.
