San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly was on KNBR 680-AM Monday morning and not only gave coffee advice, but also shared that he was not interested in adding Nick Foles to the team's quarterback competition.

Foles was released by the Los Angeles Rams on July 27. The Rams used the first overall selection in this year's draft to select their quarterback of the future and University of California alum Jared Goff after moving up in the first round.

"I'm a big fan of Nick, but right now, our eggs are in Kap and Blaine's basket," said Kelly during the interview on Monday morning, per Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group. "We're going to see what those guys can do and we're very confident in both those guys. That's really got nothing to do with Nick, but it's got a lot to do with Blaine and Kap in giving them an ample shot at being the quarterback."

Foles played for now 49ers head coach Kelly during his time in Philadelphia. In 2013, the most notable season of his career, Foles appeared in 13 games while starting 10 and completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,891 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. His 119.2 passer rating led the NFL that season and helped the Eagles to a 10-6 record, which was good enough to make the playoffs.

Since then, Foles' production has diminished during his 2014 season with the Eagles and his 2015 season with the Rams. Over those two seasons, his number of interceptions matched his number of touchdowns with 20 apiece. Foles was drafted out of Arizona by the Eagles in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

"If you have three guys in the mix, it gets really diluted, and now you're not going to get enough reps for anybody to make a determination on who the quarterback should be," added Kelly.

The 49ers, who held their first practice on Sunday morning, will continue evaluating who should start at quarterback. That job will go to either Colin Kaepernick or Blaine Gabbert.

49ers general manager Trent Baalke has control of the team's roster. Any roster decisions would ultimately end up with him.

No word yet on if Kelly is fine with more coffee in the afternoon or evening.

By David Bonilla
Apr 10

Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball. In his mock draft, Palazzolo predicts that the 49ers will select former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick. "Tampa's unique fluidity and size for a cornerback make him worthy of a top-75 pick," reads the analysis from Pro Football Focus' big board. "If he can clean up his footwork, he can

With only nine days remaining until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager revealed his first mock draft of the year. While most might expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman, Schrager has the team bolstering its wide receiver corps with an SEC talent. Schrager has the 49ers using the No. 31 overall pick to select former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey, whose 2023 campaign with the Bulldogs was limited by back and ankle injuries. "McConkey in the first round? Yes," Schrager wrote. "Above guys like Troy Franklin and Keon Coleman? Perhaps. I've spoken to a
