Former NFL head coach, 49ers assistant Dennis Green passes away at 67

Former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green passed away on Thursday. He was just 67 years old. Green spent time as an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers. He was part of Bill Walsh's first staff in 1979 where he worked as the team's spacial teams coach. He returned from 1986 through 1988 to serve as Walsh's wide receivers coach after a couple of stints within the college ranks. From there, he served as a head coach at Stanford, with the Vikings, and then with the Cardinals.

"Dennis passed away last night from complications of cardiac arrest," Green's family said in a statement. "His family was by his side and he fought hard."

49ers CEO Jed York posted the following on Twitter after learning of Green's death.


Green, who also served and a 49ers analyst for CSN Bay Area, had a career record of 113-94 as a head coach and went 4-8 in the playoffs.
