Carl Steward of the Bay Area News Group was a guest on 95.7 The Game's Towny & Zakariah Show on Wednesday and very briefly discussed the San Francisco 49ers quarterback situation following a lengthy discussion regarding the Golden State Warriors.
Steward was asked point-blank who he felt would be under center when the 49ers kicked off the season against the Los Angeles Rams on September 12. Would it be Colin Kaepernick or Blaine Gabbert?
"Kaepernick. I think you've got to go with the talent," Steward answered. "As long as Kaepernick seems like he's bought into Chip Kelly – and certainly we've got a long way before the opener – give me the talent any day. A guy that can run and throw. Gabbert can do it, but I think Kaepernick can do it better. And Chip Kelly's got a system that should be built for Kaepernick. I want to see him play it.

Kaepernick and Gabbert will kick off their quarterback battle when the 49ers report to training camp on July 30. The team's first practice will take place the next day on July 31.
