San Francisco 49ers kicker Phil Dawson announced today that he will be wearing a new number for the 2016 season. He wore number 9 since signing with the 49ers in 2013. Dawson will wear the number 4 during the upcoming season.
I wore #4 as a Texas Longhorn. I wore #4 as a Cleveland Brown. I am happy to announce, I will wear #4 in 2016 in SF!

Dawson wore the number during college and during his 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He was forced to wear a different number when he joined the 49ers because punter Andy Lee was wearing the number 4.
After becoming an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year earlier this month, Dawson signed a one-year deal to return to the 49ers.
@phil_dawson_4 will have worn numbers 4 and 9 during his #49ers career. Nice.

Dawson, who turned 41 in January, is getting ready to enter his 18th season in the NFL. He converted 24 of 27 field goals in 2015 and has an 85.4 percent career completion percentage. Prior to coming to San Francisco, Dawson made the Pro Bowl in 2012.
