Ahmad Brooks absent from team for ‘family reasons’

Oct 7, 2015 at 10:42 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said that LB Ahmad Brooks will not be with the team today. He will miss practice due to "family reasons."

Tomsula would not elaborate further and didn't give an indication on when he would return.

G Alex Boone and T Joe Staley will get the day off from practice today and will return tomorrow. Their absence is purely precautionary and Tomsula wants them ready to go when they put pads on this week.

LB NaVorro Bowman will also get his veteran day off today. It is not injury related.

TE Vernon Davis will try to return to practice today. He missed the game against the Green Bay Packers with a knee injury.

As for the trade for LB Gerald Hodges, Tomsula stated that the pickup had nothing to do with LB Michael Wilhoite and it was simply a move to improve depth. He also said that the decision to keep QB Colin Kaepernick as the starter was "100 percent" his decision. He does not have to clear it with general manager Trent Baalke or anyone else.
