Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will make his first career start in place of Alex Smith, who is still recovering from a concussion from last week.

The San Francisco 49ers host the Chicago Bears in a matchup of the top two scoring defenses in the NFL. The 49ers hold a 31-29-1 edge in the all-time series, including a 21-12 advantage at home. This game also marks the fourth matchup between the two clubs on Monday Night Football, and the first since 1991.

Last week, the 49ers (6-2-1) and St. Louis Rams played to a 24-24 tie. It marked San Francisco's 14th tie since joining the NFL in 1950, and their first tie since 1986.

Running back Frank Gore led the way for the 49ers offense, rushing for 97 yards and 1 touchdown on 21 carries and wide receiver Michael Crabtree added 5 receptions for 70 yards and 1 touchdown. On the other side of the ball, linebacker Navorro Bowman led the team with 15 tackles and linebacker Aldon Smith tallied 2 sacks.

Last week, Kaepernick replaced Smith after he suffered a concussion and was 11-of-17 for 117 yards and rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown against St. Louis.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, also recovering from a concussion, has been ruled out of tonight's game. Jason Campbell will start for Chicago.

The Bears (7-2) are coming off of a 13-6 loss to the Houston Texans.
