Niners one of the few true NFL heavyweights
Heading into the December stretch run, the 49ers have emerged as one of the few NFL heavyweights along with the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints – the past two Super Bowl champions. Those NFC powers may be the best three teams in the league, with everyone else behind them jockeying for playoff position and defining themselves as postseason contenders or pretenders with four games to go.

NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reports that the San Francisco 49ers are re-signing quarterback Brandon Allen. NBC Sports Bay Area reports that the two sides have agreed to a one-year deal. Allen was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday at the start of the new league year.
With Sam Darnold scheduled to become a free agent, Allen and Brock Purdy are the only two quarterbacks under contract with the 49ers in 2024.
