Yeah...Vernon sometimes thinks he's "elusive". He's not. He used to have all these pointless stops and starts in his route running as well. He eventually learned to stop that, but he'll bever be a naturallly elusive runner.
He just needs to use that speed and strength to run past or over peeps and stop trying to fake people out.
there was no one in between him and the pylon..and he chose to try to run over woodson

I want to say first 49ers drive of the second half. Vernon broke WIDE OPEN after Play Action by Alex and had a shot to just outrun the defender but slowed down to juke him and got tackled. Vernon ended up scoreing a TD on the drive anyway.
GREAT drive BTW. Nice RAC by Crabtree for 20 yards or so, Good Run by Gore for another 20 or so, then short run, then the big pass to Vernon. Just ate up the field like the packers weren't even there.
The only reason the Niners didn't put up alot more points was that they went into "kill the clock" mode.

VD's awareness in open field running is about equivalent to Alex's pocket awareness.

Staley was the only one of the group to grade in the negative, though that has more to do with his having to deal with the Packers' only viable pass rushing threat in Matthews. Even the TEs got involved as Vernon Davis did his usual strong work sealing the edge. But the star of the day was Alex Boone who combined strong run blocking (+2.6) with a perfect day in pass protection (+1.4). Boone was the lead man pulling outside on two big runs by Gore and he was one of the main reasons Gore averaged 11.4 yards on runs off the RE.
Whitner (-1.9) and Goldson (-1.4) combined to miss five tackles, all of which came against the pass. Each of them also surrendered a TD.
Had it not been for a Randall Cobb punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, the score would have been as lopsided as the action on the field
