I was initially angry with him, like everybody.

But then he started getting death threats on this board and via twitter. So now I'm firmly in the "I hope Kyle Williams is a Niner next year" camp. f**k our idiot fans. Excuse me..."fans".

death threats are way over the line. it's only a game people.

but, i don't want a guy who has a history of fumbles and shows poor decision making, back as a 49er. if you suck at your job, you should lose your job.

I think the job he is questionable/bad at his fielding punts. Keep him on at WR, he showed nothing but toughness at the position and was one of the only ones with somewhat sure hands who could create any sort of separation this year.
Williams alone did NOT lose this one for us. If our offense converts a few of those 3rd downs this score looks a lot different. And if we caught one of those two picks instead of colliding into our own players the outcome is very different. If we didn't forget our running game in the 4th quarter and instead get pass-happy we might have got that extra score we needed in regulation.

Unfortunately for Williams his mistakes were the only turnovers in the game and came late in a situation that they could not be overcome. Personally I'd prefer he stay at WR and not return punts, but if he's not a complete moron I'm pretty sure he'll learn from his mistakes yesterday and be better for it. He's got great hands as a WR and is an asset to our team, and I could point the finger a lot of other directions just as easily as pointing them at Williams today.
The weather didn't force KW to inexplicably get near a bouncing punt when he had no chance of returning it. Remember, he did that exact same thing against the Saints: recovered a bouncing punt when there were two defenders around him, and ended up taking a big hit immediately. He is simply an absolutely horrible punt returner, and he was horrible at WR in both playoff games too. The pressure simply got to him.
Guys I am no longer impressed by Kyle Williams.

He only had two catches for 12 yards in the playoffs as our number two receiver. I would say he is bad at both receiver and punt returner. He has no place on this team and the fans will never forgive him for those boneheaded plays. He also fumbled a reverse earlier in the game, dove to catch a punt (and could have easily fumbled AGAIN), and tripped during his one good punt return. The kid was out of his element all game. I don't want a guy that plays the worst game of his career in the biggest game of his career.

He was hardly the only WR who didn't do squat in the playoffs, so why not just cut them to? You also seem to forget that it was his initial block last week that sprung Alex for his TD run. Jesus fans are so fickle. The majority of his boneheaded plays came on punt returns. Maybe if returning punts was his sole job, then yes you cut him. But its not.

I think this board makes too much of him. He's not that great of an asset. Too small IMO to be a starting WR and just like Ginn if you don't contribute much on offense then show your value on special teams. However we saw what that did and yes I will blame him for giving the Giants points and ultimately the game. Remember he has fumbled punts before. MNF vs PIT. Lucky he got ran into and we kept possession but even that was a questionable call. I mean the swipe was not that hard, Kyle was carrying the ball pretty loose. Rain is no excuse.

Now the death threats are totally classless. I knew he would get some after the game because we, just like any other organization, have some real idiots as fans. Life goes on, don't let this game take complete control of your life. Geez
He is a good slot receiver, and is a great blocker for his size. We need an overall upgrade in the receiving department, but I hope Williams is a 9er next year. This offseason is going to be the ultimate test of his character. I hope that he is up for the challenge.
