Kyle Williams

Williams has been great. He'll stick with the team. It will be nice to get Morgan back as well. I think Crabs, Williams, and Morgan will make for a nice 3 widoutes with Ginn there to have some speed as well. I thought the best our offense looked was when morgan was playing. One of the good things about this year has been how Crabtree was forced to step up and how he and Smith really have worked things out very nicely.

People will say that until Kyle Williams loses a few fumbles. Ball security...to me it's a lot more important for a returner who doesn't fumble the ball. There's already been a few close calls in two games. God forbid, we're in a close playoff game and someone other than Ginn coughs it up deep in our own territory. I'm not saying Ginn is perfect, but he's the most dependable, experienced and sound returner that we have. If the game is on the line, I want Ginn back there.

I just wanted to bump this post, because this exact scenario I described a month ago did us in today. Ball security...the Giants' returners went down before the defenders even got close to them. Kyle Williams...what more needs to be said about him?

Here are some of the best (and worst) comments from this thread:

KRS-1: "Enter the Ted Ginn Jr apologists......."

BrianGO: "I think he (Kyle Williams) is a better PR then Ginn. Every time he gets a chance, he has a breakout game, then follows it with an injury. It's insane the way his career has been."

SanDiego49er:LOL. What?.... Ginn is probably the best and most dynamic return man we have had in 20 - 30 years. Before him for a string of about a decade we had a bunch of chumps who couldn't even catch the punt or kickoff. Like fumble and give the other team first and goal at the 5 yard line...
I think the nerves of such a huge game got to him. ST coach needs / needed to have a talk with him. He makes too many risky plays in the return game. Diving catches, picking it up on the bounce, etc... He just needs to calm the hell down and fair catch a good portion of the kicks. Ginn fair catches a lot of them. It's like KW wants every return to go the distance.
More weather than. Nerves I can bet thst was his first time receiving punts in the rain. First one in 4th quarter was no excuse. Shoulda gotten away from the ball. The OT one stuff happens.. at the end of the day.. Alex and the offense had 2 chances to win .. didn't happen .. Kyle becomes the goat.. but if we step up on 3rd downs or with 20 secs go down field to give akers a chance to win before OT possibly never happens .. not saying he isn't at fault saying offense could have done a better job for the situations not to happen or even matter.

Exactly...our 1 for 13 3rd down offense.... .

Fwank Gore leading receiver again. VD acting like a fool.

Seemed like old times--Singletary must be laughing at us.
not totally his fault and all at this point i could care less if he's on the team next year but, i know i dont wanna see him at pr ever again

In the same amount time, I've seen plenty of 2nd year players that have had better and bigger impacts than he has. So far he has done nothing in his career, except maybe cost as as SB. He should be cut.
This was NOT a weather issue. He held the ball incorrectly - never tucked it in despite having the space and time to do so. Oh well.

He had a few other punts where he had to lunge for the ball to make the catch, anothr one where he caught it then stepped out. Why even be near the ball?? Unless you can field it clean and secure the ball get the frick away from it?

just all comes down to inexperience. IDK why the coaches didn't get on his ass after his previous risky returns. Field it cleanly or get the f**k away from it. Don't dive to catch it, dont dance around the bouncing ball. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I agree, but this isn't the 1st time KW has had issues handling punts in big games. He muffed a punt in his last game at ASU that sealed the deal. A player should never be defined by one play, but that that one always stuck with me, maybe it was the look on his face after the play or that he was a team captain that just screwed up in a big game. . For lack of a better word he choked, and it appears he may have done so again yesterday. I was concerned with his ability to field punts heading into this game, whether it be weather, nerves, track record etc. I for one do not want him cut. I think he is a promising young WR with a lot of heart. I just don't ever want him fielding punts again.
Hope the young man locks out the negativity this summer and trains his arse off. Use last night as a learning tool, a very costly learning tool.

I'm sure he will man. He has no other option but to let this become a positive.

I was initially angry with him, like everybody.

But then he started getting death threats on this board and via twitter. So now I'm firmly in the "I hope Kyle Williams is a Niner next year" camp. f**k our idiot fans. Excuse me..."fans".
