Was at the store and came across SI's after draft edition by Peter King. Say what you want about his pre-draft prognostications, but he reveals some what actually happen facts. Just thought some of you might be interested. Some of it has been already posted.
The Niners targeted Kaep and Dalton in that order at before the draft.
The niners tried to move back into the first round but couldn't, price was to high.
Tried to get Patriots pick before the 2nd day of the draft started, but patriots wanted this year's third and next year's third because they knew the Raiders wanted Kaep also.
He also knew that Buffalo wasn't going to pick a QB, so decided to talk to Denver instead even before the Bengals made their selection. The rest is history.

The niners offered NE this years 3rd and next years 3rd to move to 33 and NE wanted this years 3rd and next years 2nd.
Ballke balked on the price and traded up for Kap and only gave up this years 4th and 5th instead.
The niners were targetting Kap over Dalton all along so got the QB they wanted.
As Peter King says in his article - sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make.
