According to a Q & A with Dennis Georgatos of the San Jose Mercury News, the 49ers interest in former Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks may be decreasing. 49ers personnel director Scot McCloughan was scheduled tp be on hand when Brooks works out for scouts Thursday, June 22, in Charlottesville, Va.
It appears the 49ers' interest has dampened in using a pick in the supplementary draft on Brooks or any other player. The team's personnel chief, Scot McCloughan, says the 49ers want to hang onto their picks for next April's draft. If they use a pick in the July 13 supplementary they give up that same pick in the April draft. After looking into it, it appears the 49ers have decided the risk versus reward is too high for them in the supplementary draft. -Dennis Georgatos
Brooks will be in the NFL Supplemental Draft July 13. Brooks was (and may still be) scheduled to fly to the Bay Area on June 28 and have a physical with the 49ers the next day.
