The San Francisco 49ers are among the teams showing the most interested in Florida State edge defender Josh Sweat, according to a report by Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst. Pauline states that Sweat's combine performance surprised several teams.

"I'm told Sweat is expected to participate in extensive coverage drills during Florida State's pro day on March 20, which could solidify him as a top-60 pick," wrote Pauline. "The teams presently the most interested in Sweat include the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys."

Sweat registered 41 combined tackles, 11.5 for loss, and seven sacks in 12 games and 10 starts during his sophomore season in 2016. As a junior in 2017, he tallied 56 combined tackles, 12.5 for loss, 5.5 sacks, and three passes defensed. Sweat opted not to play in the Independence Bowl so he could begin preparing for the NFL Draft.

NFL.com projects Sweat as a second- or third-round draft pick.

Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, who compares Sweat to Barkevious Mingo, had the following to say in his scouting report:

"Sweat has the length, frame and athletic qualities to fit right in as a 3-4 SAM or rush linebacker, but he needs to go to school with a position coach or a talented veteran to help unlock his pass rush potential. Sweat's initial quickness and issues with contact balance could hinder his ability to play with his hand down. He has the ability to become a decent NFL starter but there is a wide disparity between his ceiling and floor thanks to concerns surrounding the current and future health of his knee."
