Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens, an undrafted free agent, will be signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

Mullens started six times as a true freshman and then 10 games the following year. In 2014, he passed for 2,470 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions despite missing two games. 2015 was his best year when he passed for 4,476 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He followed that up with 3,272 yards passing, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 2016.

Mullens joins rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard – who was selected in the third round out of Iowa – and quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, who were added in free agency.

Pro Football Focus stats to know: Ranked fourth in the nation in adjusted completion percentage at 77.6 percent in 2015. Ranked 19th in the nation in 2016 at 74.0 percent.

NFL Media had the following to say in their scouting report:

"Mullens is a productive college quarterback with good competitiveness and toughness, but lacking the minimum standards of size and arm strength. Mullens could make it into camp, but is unlikely to find a spot on a roster."

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst had the following to say in his scouting report:

"Mullens was a terrific quarterback on the college level and displayed a good feel for the position but lacks the physical skills for Sunday football."

Pro Football Focus had the following to say in their draft analysis:

"Mullens is a very solid and productive college player. His lack of size and arm strength are two major concerns in his transition to the NFL. For what he lacks in size in arm strength, he makes up for with his accuracy, pocket poise, and ability to work through progressions and see the game clearly. Although he comes from a spread wide open offense, Mullens can play the game – and worthy of either a late round selection or UFA with a chance to make a practice squad and develop."
