@LombardiHimself-7 QB hits vs the fastest QB release of all time-another run-game shutdown-15 tackles from Dre Greenlaw-2 INTs in 2 possessions of a QB who throws fewest picks in leagueOn the 49ers defensive performance: theathletic.com/3992393/2022/1...

Profile
@LombardiHimselfWhat's more: 49ers had attained their sky-high efficiency scores without an elite run game until yesterday. The run game turned back the clock to 2019. Kittle and Juszczyk pull blocks were especially lethal. Maybe SF has firmly turned the corner on the ground? Scary if yes

Profile
@nwagonerIn small sample, it looks like #49ers really have something with Jordan Mason. He's averaging 2.69 yards per carry AFTER contact, which would be best in the NFL if qualified. Also averaging 2 yards per carry over expectation.Punishing finisher complements McCaffrey well.
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfThe way the 49ers used Jordan Mason (second half) reminded me of how they used Elijah Mitchell against Arizona in Mexico City. Christian McCaffrey was the first half back in both cases and then Mitchell/Mason came in with fresh legs. Mason is more of a bruiser. Good vs tired Ds

@LombardiHimselfThe 49ers might be on a 1994-like tear (after the 40-8 Philly loss). Here's their 2022 DVOA after the loss to the Chiefs (6 games):1. 49ers: 61.4%2. Eagles: 39.6%3. Chiefs: 25.7%4. Ravens: 25.5%5. Cowboys: 24.4%

@nwagonerA #49ers win on Thursday would do the following: -- Clinch the NFC West Division-- Ensure they could be no worse than No. 3 seed in NFC-- Keep them in mix for No. 2 seed. MIN holds 1-game lead but win against SEA would move SF to 8-2 in NFC (first tiebreaker). MIN is 6-3.

@nwagoner#49ers' NFL best streak of 39 straight games with a sack came to an end yesterday. Blame Tom Brady. Brady has an NFL best time to release of 2.47 seconds. It was a bit higher Sunday but still coming out quick.
-
Profile
@nwagonerOne more thing on special teams improvement that has flown under radar a bit: #49ers P Mitch Wishnowsky has dropped 26.1% of his punts inside the opponent's 10-yard line this year. That's second-best in the NFL. And 52.2% of his punts inside the 20, which is best in NFL by ~4%.
-
Profile
@LombardiHimselfIf you're complaining about Deebo Samuel as a RB, you're complaining about the 49ers' 200-plus yard rushing performance. Shanahan uses position-less versatility to create numbers matchups. And he must keep Samuel's runs diversified so defense isn't sitting outside or inside
-
Profile
@nwagoner#49ers RB Christian McCaffrey mentioned multiple times how good OL was Sunday. He's not wrong.Team had 64.3% pass block win rate (second best this season), led by LT Trent Williams at 100%. Brock Purdy had hand in that with his ability to evade blitzes but 0 sacks allowed.
-
Profile
@nwagonerRe-watching this game reinforced one of my takeaways: The most impressive thing about #49ers QB Brock Purdy's performance was that he did NOT just simply manage the game and operate within the system. Ability to make a defender miss, keep eyes downfield and make a play stood out.
-
Profile
@nwagonerNFL kickers, they're just like us. At halftime of yesterday's game, three randomly drawn #49ers fans got a chance to make a 49-yard field goal to win $49k. Understandably, none of them came close. And yet, they were just about as good as Ryan Succop's first field goal try.

@LombardiHimselfJordan Mason's carry load over past 4 games...-4-5-8-11Tevin Coleman call-up (special teams) indeed gave 49ers more ability to expand Mason's running load. They're treating his ramp-up well; key to build a callous. Can't ask a rookie to go from 0 to 15 carries per game

@LombardiHimselfA couple clearly big boosts for the 49ers today:-Tampa came in off a short week and cross-country trip. SF dominated the line of scrimmage more thoroughly than any other game. This almost certainly a factor-Bucs lost Vita Vea to injury early. He's a problem at 346 pounds

@nwagonerPlenty of reasons #49ers have won 6 straight but here's easiest explanation:In that span, no team in the NFL has more takeaways than San Francisco's 12. Only one team has fewer giveaways than the Niners' 3. That's plus-9, tied with Detroit (!) for best in NFL in that time.
