Following yesterday's practice, his first with the San Francisco 49ers, rookie OG Joshua Garnett spoke to the media. Until now, Garnett has been unable to participate in the team's offseason program due to NFL rules prohibiting rookies from participating in offseason work until their school's senior class has finished their terms.

Garnett stated that he has not graduated yet. He still has one more quarter to complete – something that he will do in the spring next year. In fact, he turned in a school assignment as recently as last night. Until now, he has been working on his own, getting the playbook on his iPad and working on the Stanford field to emulate what the team was doing.


He's been staying in contact with other rookies to try to figure out what they are doing. "I felt better than I thought I was going to do coming in and everything's clicking and I felt like my preparation really helped me out," Garnett said of his first day of practice.

Garnett confirmed that he practiced at both guard spots. He said that he feels comfortable at both spots. "There really isn't any differences. I mean, the footwork on the zone plays we ran here are the exact same footwork on the zone plays we ran at Stanford. There's really no big differences other than the terminology for me," said Garnett in response to a question about the difference in scheme from college to the NFL. "It's the same footwork that I've been doing for four years at Stanford."
