49ers RB Carlos Hyde unlikely to play against Bucs

Running back Carlos Hyde acknowledged that he probably won't reach his offseason goal of making 16 starts this season, but 15 remains within reach. Hyde said he expects to miss Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with a shoulder injury, but he'll be able to return after the bye when the 49ers host the Saints on Nov. 6. Before Hyde spoke with reporters, head coach Chip Kelly said it would be a "stretch" for him to play against the Buccaneers. Hyde said running backs coach Tom Rathman eventually pulled him from the game. Hyde missed 11 of 32 games in his first two NFL seasons, nine in 2015 when he suffered a foot injury. In other injury news, cornerback Jimmie Ward said he will return Sunday after missing three games with a quadriceps injury. Cornerback Rashard Robinson, who assumed Ward's starting role, remained sidelined with a concussion. The 49ers' offense is ranked 32nd in the NFL, their defense is ranked 27th, and their special teams aren't doing so hot, either. The 49ers rank 30th in the league in yards per return (17.5) and they have lost fumbles in their past two games that have set up short scoring drives.
