The 49ers have placed cornerback Chris Davis on injured reserve with a knee injury and filled his roster spot by signing cornerback JaCorey Shepherd. Shepherd was a 2015 sixth-round pick of the Eagles and spent his first season in the NFL on injured reserve with a torn ACL. Davis was injured on a kickoff return in the third quarter of a 33-21 loss to the Cardinals on Thursday night and was later observed on crutches in the locker room. Davis, who missed the season opener with a hamstring injury, played just four defensive snaps in the past two games after logging 34 in Weeks 2-3.
