National anthem protests led by Colin Kaepernick are fueling a debate about privilege, pride, and patriotism. In response, he referenced the recent shootings of black men by white police officers in Tulsa, Okla., and Charlotte, N.C. The shooting in Charlotte has inspired rioting the past two nights. In Week 2, at least 16 other NFL players either knelt or raised a fist during the national anthem, including five of Kaepernick's teammates. The 49ers' upcoming opponent, the Seattle Seahawks, has linked arms during the national anthem this season in a sign of team unity that was inspired by Kaepernick.
