Report refutes Texans interest in trading for Kaepernick

Feb 28, 2016 at 9:30 AM--

Last week brought word that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick would like to be something other than a 49ers quarterback during the 2016 season and wants to be traded to another team. The 49ers haven't said whether Kaepernick made such a request, although owner Jed York said he thinks the quarterback can be "a big piece...

Were the San Francisco 49ers interested in former New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore? Maybe. Maybe not. Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't make that clear while speaking with reporters before today's practice. Not that anyone thought he would. What the coach did say is that the 49ers at least look into the possibility of acquiring Gilmore. "We looked into all of it," Shanahan told reporters. "We obviously didn't go through with it." While initial reports stated that the Patriots were planning to release Gilmore due to a contract dispute, New England ended up trading the Pro Bowl and All-Pro cornerback to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round draft pick. It was a modest price for one of the league's top

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Today's practice report looked very much like what head coach Kyle Shanahan previewed beforehand. There was no Jimmy Garoppolo, as the quarterback continues to recover from a calf injury. "I mean, it could go up to game time," Garoppolo said before practice about Sunday's game status. "We've done it before up to game time. And it's really just about getting the mental reps while I can out there today, see where I'm at tomorrow and everything." There was no Trent Williams, who, like Garoppolo, was injured this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. San Francisco continues to be cautious

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Things are starting to trend towards rookie quarterback Trey Lance making his first NFL start. Jimmy Garoppolo missed his second consecutive practice after suffering a calf injury during Week 4. That makes it unlikely the veteran starter will be healthy enough to lead the offense against the Cardinals. Tight end George Kittle also missed his second consecutive practice. He is dealing with the same calf injury that sidelined him for most of last week. However, he still played this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. If Lance does start, he will probably have left tackle Trent Williams helping keep

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did not practice this week and has been ruled "out" for Sunday, which means fans will see rookie Trey Lance in his first career NFL start. Garoppolo suffered a calf injury during Week 4's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The hope was that he would take part in today's practice and test his right leg. That didn't happen. Tight end George Kittle also did not practice this week and is listed as "doubtful." He is also dealing with a calf injury. It's the same injury that kept him out of practice for most of last week. However, Kittle was able to play this past weekend. We'll have to wait to see if
