Innovative Gase Might Mean Big Things for 49ers Offense

Niners general manager Trent Baalke met with Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase for several hours Tuesday in Denver, and it now appears he could have the inside track on becoming San Francisco's next head coach.If that's the case, just what is it about Gase that makes him so attractive to the 49ers? After all, Gase, just 36, never has been a head coach. He'd be handed the reins to a franchise with a new stadium, a young quarterback who regressed a bit in 2014 and some very great expectations.What makes him so special?Apparently, many things, but No. 1 is his innovative approach to offense. According to a story by the New York Times' Bill Pennington in 2014, Gase has been called a "genius" by John Elway, the Broncos GM and former Super Bowl-winning quarterback. Head coach John Fox – fired this week in Denver – called Gase a "master of innovation." And Broncos QB Peyton Manning says he's "the smartest guy I know."He's been praised by former 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci, who gave him his first coaching job in the NFL, and by former NFL offensive wiz Mike Martz, for whom he worked with the 49ers.
