Yet, there was something lacking from the 49ers’ run game.
Despite rushing for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, the explosive plays that push up the average were mostly non-existent. McCaffrey had just three runs of 20 or more yards all season.
“In order to get those big runs, it always takes all 11,” coach Kyle Shanahan said on this week’s episode of “49ers Game Plan.”
Shanahan said there were a lot of reasons why the 49ers’ run game was not as explosive as past seasons.
“There are a few that Christian could do better, but I want to give him more opportunities,” Shanahan said.
