What to Know The San Francisco 49ers had until 3 p.m. PT on Sunday to cut down their roster from 90 to 53 players before Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. OL Jarrett Patterson was acquired via trade with the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick. The team placed RB Isaac Guerendo and DL Mykel Williams on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. They can return to practice starting in Week 3 and can play in games starting in Week 5. WR Christian Kirk and OL Austen Pleasants were put on injured reserve/designated to return. They also are out for at least the first four games of the season. San Francisco also released or waived 33 players, including P Corliss Waitman and LS Jon Weeks. However, many of them will be brought back to the active roster or the 17-man practice squad once other players are placed on IR. Here’s everything you need to know as the San Francisco 49ers set their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 NFL season at Sunday’s deadline.
