The Los Angeles Rams might not want to face their top division rival at home, but they are going all-out in their bid to finish the season on their own field.The Rams have made the kind of splash that is rarely seen in the NFL.
After focusing on their defensive backfield at the opening of the new league year, Los Angeles has now turned its attention to the defensive line.
General manager Les Snead and coach Sean McVay pulled off a whopper of a deal, ESPN reported on Monday, to acquire five-time All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett, 30, is in his prime. He is coming off an NFL-record 23-sack season and a second NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He has 125.5 sacks in 134 career games over nine NFL seasons.
One year ago, Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Browns through the 2030 season. Now, the Rams pick up the remaining portion of that deal.
Garrett’s contract, as well as the level of compensation required to snag him from the Browns, made it highly unlikely the 49ers could ever seriously get involved in the trade talks.
