Ranking 49ers road trips Faithful can take with full 2026 NFL schedule released

The 49ers will be traveling the most miles by any NFL team in 2026, which means the Faithful might have to pick and choose which away games to attend.There are a few clear standouts when it comes to choosing the best road venues to travel to, but as the NFL’s most prominent traveling fan base, the 49ers Faithful never are alone when they are away from home. Of the nine international games scheduled by the NFL, the 49ers will be participants in two of the contests. If international travel is not in your game plan for the 2026 NFL season, there are still seven other away-game options that will be held in the United States. Here’s our ranking of the best 49ers road trips that 2026 has to offer after Thursday’s official NFL schedule release: No. 9 – Week 18, 49ers at Arizona Cardinals Time: Dec. 9 or 10, T.B.D. The 49ers’ annual trip to the desert is logistically favorable, as it is only an hour flight to Phoenix and there are numerous hotel options to choose from. The challenge is getting to Glendale, Ariz., where the stadium is located, which is about 30 minutes away from the airport (21 miles). Staying near the stadium is an option, but then you’ll be missing the local color of the downtown arts district or the dining options of Scottsdale. Once you’ve made the journey to the stadium, it is nice venue, albeit not as an electrically charged environment as other stadiums and fan bases. This also is a stadium you will have an opportunity to visit every season. No. 8 – Week 15, 49ers at Los Angeles Chargers Time: Thursday, Dec. 17, 5:15 p.m. (Prime) Again it’s an easy flight from the Bay Area to Southern California, but getting in and out of Sofi Stadium is a challenge. Once inside, it is an amazing state-of-the-art venue, but the energy compared to when the Los Angeles Rams are hosting at “Levi’s South” will be difficult to match. Los Angeles offers great food, beaches and Hollywood, so if sightseeing is your wish, there are a lot of options. One stop to put on your list is The Kettle, a diner in Manhattan Beach where Joe Montana received the call that he was being drafted by the 49ers. No. 7 – Week 7, 49ers at Atlanta Falcons Time: Sunday, Oct. 25, 10:00 a.m. (FOX) The 49ers have not been to Atlanta since 2022, and while ino longer is the newest stadium in the league, Mercedes Benz is an exceptional venue for a sporting event. The stadium is easily accessible, located in the heart of downtown, which makes it walkable. This also is a great venue for the Faithful who are located in southern states, who do not often get the opportunity to head west to see their favorite team. The cuisine in Atlanta is not to be missed, including barbecue, shrimp and grits, and of course peach cobbler. South City Kitchen is a consistent standout. No. 6 – Week 16, 49ers at Kansas City ChiefsTime: Sunday, Dec. 27, 1:25 p.m. (CBS) Barbecue is the highlight when you head to Kansas City to see the 49ers take on the Chiefs. Arrowhead Stadium is located well outside the downtown area, which makes it a challenge to get to, but worth it for the atmosphere at the game. Chiefs fans take their tailgating seriously, and you can smell the charcoal well before the stadium is in view. Once inside, you can stroll through the Chiefs Hall of Fame, which is open to all visitors on the concourse of the stadium. No. 5 – Week 10, 49ers at Dallas CowboysTime: Sunday, Nov. 15, 1:25 p.m. (FOX) AT&T Stadium opened in 2009 but still is one of the NFL’s premier venues. The monstrous replay screen that hangs over the field remains one of the best of all sporting venues, but you might catch yourself watching the screen instead of the action on the field. The 49ers last faced off with the Cowboys in Arlington in the 2022 NFC wild-card game that ended with the Niners on top 23-17, sending them to the Divisional Round Playoff in Green Bay the following week Any game between the 49ers and the Cowboys is worth the trip due to their historic rivalry. While Arlington is a nearly 20-mile hike from downtown Dallas, it is a stadium you should visit at least once. No. 4 – Week 5, 49ers at Seattle SeahawksTime: Sunday, Oct. 11, 1:25 p.m. (FOX) The level of energy at Lumen Field is really unmatched. Whether they pump extra noise into the stadium or not is debatable, but the sound system’s power can be felt in the moments before fans are allowed into the building. The food, coffee and craft breweries in Seattle make the annual trip to the Pacific Northwest one of the best. Light rail can take you to the city where everything else is relatively walkable, including the stadium. Ballard, Bellevue and Alki are options if you want to wander outside of the downtown area. Pike Place Market and the waterfront offer great food and watering holes if you want to stay in the city. If you can see a game at the University of Washington the same weekend, it is also worth the trip. No. 3 – Week 11, 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings in Mexico CityTime: Sunday, Nov. 22, 5:20 p.m. (NBC) The 49ers last visit to Estadio Azteca was one of the final events before the stadium was closed down for renovations. The historic venue had no elevators and very spotty wifi in 2022, which hopefully has been resolved with its reopening. While this is technically a “home game” for the 49ers, it is one of the top road destinations of the season as the second international contest for the team. With an altitude of 7,350 feet above sea level, the 49ers likely will spend a few days in Colorado Springs to prepare. The cuisine and the culture of Mexico City is definitely worth the four-hour-plus flight, as well as the 49ers takeover that will undoubtedly occur. The team has a sizable fanbase south of the border, and they made themselves known throughout the city when the team last visited. No. 2 – Week 13, 49ers at New York GiantsTime: Sunday, Dec. 6, 10:00 a.m. (FOX) Yes, Met Life Stadium is well outside of New York City limits and the venue itself hosts some awful memories for the 49ers, but Manhattan makes the trip worth it. The energy of the city is a necessary experience if you’ve never been, and the game is set to be entertaining with John Harbaugh’s take over of the Giants. All types of food are available at nearly all hours of the day and night, as well as Broadway shows and historic landmarks like the 9-11 memorial. Getting to the the stadium is relatively easy and affordable from Penn Station. No. 1 – Week 1, 49ers at Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne Time: Thursday, Sept. 10, 5:35 p.m. (Netflix) It takes a 16-hour flight to get to Melbourne, but to be a part of the first-ever NFL game in an international venue is historic. This trip is a clear disadvantage for the 49ers logistically, but an exceptional opportunity for the fans that can make the trip. Australia is worth the visit alone. Not only is there much to see, including famous landmarks in the city, there are several day trip venues if you want to get in touch with nature down under. Melbourne is known for its high-end coffee as well as incredible restaurant scene that includes a wealth of seafood. There are also neighborhoods with incredible street art that are worth a visit.
