Why draft pick Carver Willis is ‘happy’ to move inside 49ers’ offensive line

SANTA CLARA — Carver Willis senses a change ahead, and that’s just fine with the newest member of the 49ers’ offensive line.San Francisco selected the offensive tackle with the No. 127 overall pick of the NFL Draft, and Willis shared that moving inside is what most NFL personnel departments discussed with him through the pre-draft process. “That’s something every team in the NFL talked to me about,” Willis shared via video conference. “I’m happy to do it, no matter where they need me on the line. I’ve said this the whole time — I just want a shot at the playbook. Anywhere they need me on the line, I’m game.” The 49ers’ offensive line has four of its five starters returning in 2026. Willis expects to be involved in the competition for the open spot at left guard. While this will be an adjustment, the 24-year-old is ready for the transition. “It’s a different game on the inside,” Willis said. “Things get on you a little quicker, guys are a little bigger.
