John Lynch and Co. tried to trade the No. 33 overall pick but found no takers and ended up drafting Ole Miss wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling. The 49ers were on the clock at No. 58 but traded the pick, along with No. 152, to the Cleveland Browns for a third-round pick (No. 70 overall) and a fourth-round pick (No. 107 overall). San Francisco used the No. 70 overall pick on Texas Tech edge rusher Romello Height. The 49ers addressed their need for a running back by selecting Indiana’s Kaelon Black with the No. 90 overall pick in the third round.
