Free-agent running backs 49ers could target to fill void at the position

The 49ers’ backup running back for 2025 did not fall into their laps until shortly before the start of the regular season.This year, San Francisco can check that box early in the offseason with a strong group of running backs available as free agents.The 49ers sent a sixth-round pick to the Washington Commanders for Brian Robinson to line up behind McCaffrey last season.That move came five months after the 49ers acquired a sixth-round pick for Jordan Mason in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.Robinson is scheduled for unrestricted free agency after averaging a little more than 10 snaps a game with the 49ers as McCaffrey’s backup.
