After headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, global music star Bad Bunny shared a personal connection to the San Francisco 49ers and revealed he hopes to see the franchise return to the top of the NFL.
Following his performance at Levi's Stadium, the 49ers' home venue, the Puerto Rican artist released a statement explaining the significance of his custom outfit. The jersey featured the name "OCASIO" and the number 64, honoring his maternal uncle, Cutito Ocasio, who was born in 1964.
"The little I know about the NFL is thanks to him," the statement read in Spanish.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, explained that his uncle was a devoted 49ers fan, likely making the performance in Santa Clara especially meaningful.
"My uncle passed away two years ago, shortly after the 49ers lost to Kansas City in the 2024 Super Bowl," the statement continued. "I always dreamed of taking my uncle to a Super Bowl, and I couldn't."
The artist hopes to one day see the 49ers win another Super Bowl, knowing that it would have brought his uncle joy. He dedicated his Super Bowl LX halftime performance to his uncle and believes he was present in spirit.
"I'm sure he saw it; he was there in spirit, and he felt proud of his nephew," the statement added. "Now all that's left is the day the 49ers win another Super Bowl."
H/t to Alex Simon of the SFGATE for the fine.
